William Cole Vineyards

William Cole Vineyards

The Casablanca Valley of Chile, the home of William Cole, is well known for its natural beauty. Rugged hills are seen in every direction, and between them, fertile farms with small villages nestled here and there. The most beautiful parts of the valley are the fields of wine grapevines. Their rich green colours spread as far as the eye can see.
It is partly the soil diversity that makes the Casablanca Valley one of the premier wine producing regions in the world, but for William Cole the most important factor is the climate – affected by the intensely cold waters of the nearby Pacific Ocean – which has cool foggy nights followed by clear, cloudless days during the growing season. The afternoon breeze brings dry, clean air about the leaves of each plant to keep them free of damaging spores.

Tasting Notes:

William Cole Sauvignon Blanc 2004 A lively nose of passion fruit, pear, grass, lemon, floral and spice tones set the pace for this dry, racy/fresh Sauvignon Blanc. William Cole Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 An elegant wine, that shows ripe plums, red berries and spice integrated with subtle American oak. Oozing with bold, ripe, earthy, classic Chilean cabernet character.

Chateau Batailley

Chateau Batailley

The name Batailley is said to derive from a “bataille” fought 600 years ago between the French and the English on the same spot as the present Property. It is located in the south of the commune of Pauillac on the road to St-Laurent. The property is owned by Emile Casteja of the famous negociants, Boire-Manoux. The 55 hectares of vineyards (Cabernet Sauvignon 70%, Merlot 25%, Cabernet Franc 3%, Petit Verdot 2%) undulate on a deep gravel bed, underpinned by a clay and limestone subsoil. Vinification takes place in a mixture of oak, stainless steel and cement vats, followed by 18 months maturation in oak barriques (50% new). It is classified as a 5eme Cru Classé and is one of the best value wines in the Pauillac.

Tasting Notes:

Chateau Batailley 1999 Vintage A classic Pauillac nose: pencil lead and black tarry fruits. Palate is impressive with good grip, dense black fruits laces with mocha and a good balance. This wine is dark ruby-coloured, with medium body and notes of weedy black currants intermixed with earth and saddle leather. It has moderate tannin and a firm finish. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2012. Wine Advocate 86/100
